The European Molecular Biology Organisation showed interest in the Lithuanian research ethics

On the 25th of May, Ms. Loreta Tauginienė, Ombudsperson for Academic Ethics and Procedures, took part in the policy overview session of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) about the research integrity. The ombudsperson briefly reviewed the evaluation of the Lithuanian situation of research and publishing and presented the main results of the survey “Barometer of Responsible Research 2020”, as well as one of the tools that induce observation of research ethics – the Guidelines for Ethical Review. Besides, the meeting was used to discuss the necessity to make changes in evaluation of the researcher’s activities, expert evaluation of applications for research projects, and reinforcement of the role of the institutions carrying out and financing the research in the area of research ethics.

EMBO was founded in 1964. It unites more than 1800 life researchers in Europe and beyond. The main goals of the organisation are to support talented researchers at all stages of their careers, stimulate the exchange of scientific information, and help build a research environment where scientists can achieve their best work.
