Meeting with the students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Vilnius University

Ombudswoman Loreta Tauginienė gave a lecture to students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Vilnius University on 22 September, on how academic ethics contributes to the reinforcement of the university’s social responsibility. She stressed that it is provided in the Law on Higher Education and Research of the Republic of Lithuania that a harmonious system of research and higher education should also train an ethically responsible personality, while the university has to be socially responsible, too. The students learned about the competence of the Office of the Ombudsperson, went deeper into the mission, values, research, and educational principles of Vilnius University, and identified the means it is using to ensure compliance with academic ethics. When doing practical tasks, the students assessed academic ethics as one of the constituents of the university’s social responsibility. The question was also raised about whether the student who has manifested dishonest academic behaviour, would tend to act dishonestly in the workplace as well.
