The Office conducted the “Responsible Research Barometer” survey for the third time

This year, the latest “Responsible Research Barometer” survey was conducted across Lithuanian academic and research institutions. Participants included a wide array of the academic community—PhD students, lecturers, researchers, and other scholars. Over 360 individuals contributed to the survey, which revealed evolving trends in academic ethics and the quality of research.

The survey results highlighted a positive shift in understanding research ethics and academic integrity principles, with more than 60% of respondents reporting that they are well-versed in these principles and apply them in their daily work. This marks an improvement compared to previous years when awareness of these principles was lower, indicating progress within academic institutions.

However, challenges persist. A significant number of participants observed unethical behaviors, such as gift authorship or undeserved co-authorship, continuing in academic settings. Many researchers also remain hesitant to report such unethical conduct to relevant institutions, either due to concerns about the lack of change or fears of negative repercussions.

The report provides a detailed analysis of how participants view the implementation of research ethics and academic integrity guidelines, observed violations, and suggestions for improvement. While progress is noted, the results indicate that further attention is required to ensure proper dissemination and enforcement of academic ethics.
