A Cooperation Memorandum Signed: Strengthening Student Awareness of Academic Ethics

As many as 72 percent of students in Lithuania report lacking knowledge about academic ethics – this is revealed by the latest research conducted by the Office of the Ombudsperson for Academic Ethics and Procedures. In response to this challenge, the Office has initiated a meaningful partnership with the Lithuanian National Union of Students and the Vilnius University Students’ Representation.

A cooperation memorandum signed today marks a shared commitment to fostering a more transparent, responsible, and ethically aware academic environment for all students. The goal of this partnership is to increase student awareness of academic integrity principles and to cultivate ethical behavior throughout the study process.

The following initiatives are planned:

  • organizing training sessions and discussions on academic integrity;

  • developing informational resources, surveys, and other engaging activities;

  • placing special focus on the ethical use of artificial intelligence in academic settings.

The Office extends its sincere thanks to Ieva Vengrovskaja, President of the Lithuanian National Union of Students, and Klėja Merčaitytė, President of the Vilnius University Students’ Representation, as well as to everyone who contributed to this significant step forward.

We also express special appreciation to Dr. Reda Cimmperman, Ombudsperson for Academic Ethics and Procedures, for her professionalism, consistency, and inspiring leadership, which encourages the development of an ethical, open, and trust-based academic culture.
