Handbook on Whistleblower Protection in Research was published

The European Network of Research Integrity Offices (ENRIO) has published a Handbook on Whistleblower Protection in Research. It aims to help research institutions understand how to set up a system for managing whistleblowing in research. The Handbook may also be useful for research funding organisations monitoring the implementation of research projects or the scientific activities of researchers and the dissemination of science and receiving reports of possible irregularities. The Handbook on Whistleblower Protection in Research is also aimed at researchers, the public interested in research, and potential whistleblowers. It provides guidance for those who intend to report possible research misconduct, as well as potential problems that may arise during and after research.

The ENRIO working group on whistleblower protection was informally established in 2016 by representatives from Austria and Finland. The first meeting of the working group, chaired by representatives from Germany, took place in 2018. The Handbook on Whistleblower Protection in Research has been developed by representatives from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Lithuania, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Germany.
