Discussions on the Boundaries of Academic Freedom at the Upcoming LSS Assembly in Klaipėda

On August 29, the Lithuanian National Union of Students (LSS) will hold its Assembly “Higher Education – Not Rocket Science” in Klaipėda. At the event, the Ombudsperson for Academic Ethics and Procedures, Dr. Reda Cimmperman, will deliver a presentation highlighting the academic community’s responsibility for safeguarding the boundaries of freedom of ideas, adherence to ethical principles, and the responsible use of academic freedom.

“Academic freedom is not something to be taken for granted – it requires responsibility. Only by applying it responsibly can we build a higher education environment based on trust. I believe that the discussions in Klaipėda will inspire new ideas and strengthen the unity of the community,” says Dr. R. Cimmperman.

The Assembly will also feature Prof. Dr. Dainius Pūras, who will address human rights issues in student unions. Guests from the student unions of Latvia and Estonia will also attend, engaging in discussions on the challenges of higher education, human rights, and civic resilience.

The LSS Assembly is the largest gathering of Lithuanian student leaders, bringing together young leaders and representatives of the higher education community. This year’s Assembly in Klaipėda will serve as an important forum for discussions where student leaders and higher education experts will jointly seek solutions for the future of higher education.
